“Engagement” has great deal to do with finding a meaningful career. Such choices are never easy, and almost always complicated. From the Gallup research, “disengagement” is usually connected to two consistent issues; a bad boss and lack of a career path.
Over the past 5 years, I’ve observed organisational restructuring, listened to employees in transition, watched some executives go off the rails, while others steer through the obstacles. Two themes usually emerge; resiliency or withdrawl. For some people the disruption gives the inspiration to look for a more meaningful career. For others, the upheaval causes them to withdraw and when they look for a career, will grab for the nearest thing.
